Probably right. We don't get those exotic fruits like honeydew and cantelope here.

[Nathan is silent for a moment, obviously for effect, and then tentatively, he asks:] ... what's a honeydew?

[She shake her head because yes, she's aware.]

One of the better melons, in my humble opinion.

What? No. [he makes a face] No way. Watermelon is definitely the best.

Have to disagree. Watermelon is just overly sweet water. Barely has any heft to it.

[She's not serious, but if he's going to make her take sides, she's going to take sides.]

At least it tastes like something?

Honeydew has, like, zero flavor.

You've clearly have not had good honeydew.

[Because there is plenty of flavor there if you get one that's picked at the perfect time, as with most fruit.]

Maybe you've just never had a good watermelon.

Guess we should break into one of these fruit baskets and see who's right.

[There's enough that they can still leave plenty for the crew.]

[Nathan starts to get to his feet, gesturing to the door]

Guess we should.

[lead the way, wife]

[She will, husband. She'll head back into the break room and snag one of the ones the crew hasn't broken into and inspected the contents.]

Grab some plates?

[Nathan turns to do just that]

You want me to grab, like, some forks, too? Or are we doing this barbarian style?

Forks work.

[Otherwise, she's just going to pull out one of the decorative sticks and use it to skewer pieces, while occasionally nibbling on the chocolate covered pineapple.]

Probably should act like civilized people.

[look, stabbing fruit with pointy sticks is totally a valid life choice. but he'll get the forks, holding one out to her, once he's grabbed them. and in a terrible English accent:]

Your utensil, ma'am.

[somewhere, Cutter probably wants to punch someone and doesn't understand why]

Why, thank you.

[She does her best to match his hoity toity vibe, before pulling off the cellophane around the basket and dishing out some of the fruit. She'll also toss in some of the other options, because if they're breaking it open, they might as well enjoy.]

Do you want one of the chocolate covered pineapples?

You really need to ask?

[yes. yes, he does, in fact, want some of the chocolate covered pineapple]

[She adds one of the sticks to the plate before passing it over to him with a smile.]

[he takes the plate for her, immediately reaching for the pineapple. he has it about halfway to his mouth, even, when he stops abruptly]

Wait, wait, wait.

Are we, like, eating stuff, one at a time, so we can judge what a good watermelon is or whatever?

[that is how they got here, right? over an 'argument' on watermelon]

Oh, good point.

[She looks down at the plate.]

So the plan was honeydew versus watermelon, right? Maybe we should just take it one cube at a time.

Start with the honeydew?

[so he has something to wash his mouth out with, so to speak, with the watermelon, if he decides he still doesn't like honeydew]

Honeydew it is.

[She reaches forward and skewers one of the pieces. It is good honeydew - lightly sweet and juicy enough that it's not a struggle to chew. Almost melts in your mouth.]

Yum.

[duderaider]

[Nathan pops a piece into his mouth, too, though it's slowly, tentatively, like he expects it to bite him if he moves too fast. once he's swallowed, the flinch of an expression he's been wearing softens a little]

Okay, it's definitely better than some of the ones I've had.

[he's still not sure he likes it, though?]

I will accept better than you remember.

[It's not a win, necessarily, but better than him fully disgracing honeydew's good name.]
